NOW ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS

Psychiatric care on the North Shore

Ten years of practice within community health helped shape how I practice: start with the child, not the diagnosis. My practice offers individualized care for children, teens, young adults and the families supporting them.

Ready to help

Hi, my name is Anne-Terese

I'm a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry. I built my practice in the heart of downtown Salem. I would be honored to care for you or your family.

Common questions

Before you book

The things people usually want to know before reaching out. If your question isn't here, use the contact form and I'll get back to you right away.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, my practice currently takes Aetna and self pay. Coming soon I will take Blue Cross Blue Shield, United and Harvard Pilgrim. I am out of network with all other payors. Reach out to your insurance carrier to ask about out-of-network benefits.

What is a PMHNP?

A PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner) is a board-certified specialist who can diagnose, prescribe, and provide therapy. As a PMHNP, I hold independent licensure in Massachusetts so I can offer psychiatric care without physician oversight.

What ages do you see?

While I specialize in elementary-thru-college age students, I have over 10 years experience working with people of all ages. If you are an adult looking for help, please reach out. If I’m not the right fit, I am happy to provide referrals.

What if I am hesitant to start medication — especially for my child?

That's completely understandable, and it won't change the quality of care you receive. I'll never push medication on you or your child. Instead, we'll explore all available options, including non-medication approaches, and take our time making any decisions together. If medication does seem like the right fit, I aim to use the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary time — and we'll check in regularly about how it's working and how everyone feels about it.

How often will we meet?

Early on, we'll meet more frequently to complete the evaluation and get to know each other — for children and adolescents, this includes time with parents or caregivers as well. After that, the cadence is flexible and based on your or your child's needs and goals. Sometimes more support is needed and we'll adjust accordingly. The majority of the time we start with every-other-week appointments and move to a 4-8 week cadence once things feel stable.

What to expect at appointments?

Each visit is a chance to check in — on how you or your child is feeling, how any treatments are working, and what's been happening that might be affecting mental health. We'll track progress together and adjust the plan as things evolve. For younger patients, I work closely with parents and caregivers as part of the process. Appointments may include medication management, supportive conversation, or psychoeducation. I ask a lot of questions and welcome yours.

Is this in-person, telehealth or both?

All my patients do an initial consultation in person at my downtown Salem office. Most patients then prefer to meet in-person but some do switch to telehealth for follow-ups.

What happens in a consultation?

It's a 15-minute conversation. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, your history, and what you're hoping to be different. By the end, you'll leave with a clear plan — or a referral if we're not the right fit.

Where are you located?

My office is located on the first floor at 6 Lynde Street, Salem, MA 01970.

Where do I park?

There are metered parking spots along Lynde Street, but I usually recommend parking in the Sewall Street Parking Lot at 8 Sewall Street (the same lot as the Salem YMCA). It's accessible from both Sewall and Lynde Streets and is just a 30-second walk to my office.
